This May, right after the Boston trip, I am really excited to have my dance performance at the Kumble theater. The ballet company I am in is preforming and I think this will be a really great opportunity to show the audience our piece. The piece we are performing has four parts and it is structured differently than many other pieces I have performed in. In contrast to just performing a random piece our piece shows the development of a story about two groups of people fighting. The first part consists of the two groups all doing the same choreography together. The second section is the two groups performing different choreography, both with balloons. Then, in the third section one of the balloons pop and that is the dramatic scene. lastly, everyone gets pinwheels and the piece ends on a happy note :)

South African street dancing

Image result for south african street dancersThe other day I was reading this New York Times article about dancing around the world and I found it very interesting because a lot of the time people think that in poorer counties people will not be able to dance, because dancing is a very expensive art form. Especially with certian types of dance, specifically ballet, ballroom and trapeze (dance that requires a lot of equiptment). Aditionally I find it amazing that people can bring joy to the streets through dance. I choose the pictures below because I think it really shows the joy and energy in these South African street Link to New York Times Article

wading in the water dance

After doing the wading in the water dance I found the background of the dance very interesting. I think the idea that Alvin Ailey bases his dances of real life experinces is really cool and I think it makes the dance feel more alive. Unlike some ballets that eventually get boring I think that Alvin Ailey really makes his dances personal. I also think that his dances portray meaning and leave the audience walking out with a better understanding of growing up in Texas during segregation. After learning the dance wading in the water I find myself wanting to expand on the dance more. Also, even more than wanting to continue the dance I would love to see the actual dance  (revalations) preformed by Alvin Ailey's company.

first position review

FirstPosition

Yesterday I watched a documentary called First Position which was pretty much all about the dance competitive world and makes you realize how many different levels of dance there is and how intense dance can be. I felt like it really showed a side of dance to me that I had never seen before and I was really surprised how amazing some of the kids are. One boy age 11 could do 15 fouette turns in a row! Also this documentary made me realize how dedicated the dancer, and the family have to be to their child's dance career. Another thing that really surprised me was how in one family "First Position" featured the dad was in the navy and he choose to go on the harder mission so his son could continue his ballet training. Another case  was when a girl about our age had to quit regular school and get home schooled so that she could start training more intensely. I can not imagine doing this because i would miss my friends and would probably get really bored just working out of a textbook all day. Overall, I thought that this documentary was a great way to get a peek into the dance competitive world and to see how dance can transform someone's childhood and be much more than just an art form.

Favorite type of dance survey

A question I have always had is what most kids favorite style of dance is? For me I would say modern dance, no doubt but I am curious to see what other kids think. If you want to take the survey (which would be great) click the link below

muscle and joint dance refletion

Last year when I found out that I got into dance talent I was really excited, I liked the dance talent last year but I already like it much more this year. I like it much more already this year because I feel like the class moves faster and we learn steps quicker. Also, I am excited for this year when we learn many diffrent styles of dance from around the world. So far this year I feel like the muscle and joint dances have been really fun and interesting. I felt like the rythm of the music for the joint dance was pretty challanging because the beat was hard to follow and get the timing with all of the screaming in the background :) I think that the joint dance was also good because we got to do really sharp and presise isolation which helped me see how we were using each joint seperatley. I liked the muscle dance but I think I liked the joint dance better. i say this because I like faster dances better than slow. Overall I have really liked the dances so far and think that they have been really fun! :)

dancewave review

when I was in kindergarten I started dancing (not really though) I just did the little kids ballet classes at BAX but they were really fun. ever since I started middle school I decided to try alot of diffrent studios (there are so many) other than BAX. last year, I did one class at BAX for ballet and I did the hip-hop class at school which was really great which had a teacher from dancewave. so, this year I decided to try the dancewave ballet company, and I am also doing a modern class at dancewave. I really like modern more than ballet but ballet is good for technique. but I also really like the dancewave ballet company because it is really fun and I really like it how the company is not just  a class it is more like a team.  below is a picture of the dancewave company a few years ago.
