This May, right after the Boston trip, I am really excited to have my dance performance at the Kumble theater. The ballet company I am in is preforming and I think this will be a really great opportunity to show the audience our piece. The piece we are performing has four parts and it is structured differently than many other pieces I have performed in. In contrast to just performing a random piece our piece shows the development of a story about two groups of people fighting. The first part consists of the two groups all doing the same choreography together. The second section is the two groups performing different choreography, both with balloons. Then, in the third section one of the balloons pop and that is the dramatic scene. lastly, everyone gets pinwheels and the piece ends on a happy note :)

South African street dancing

Image result for south african street dancersThe other day I was reading this New York Times article about dancing around the world and I found it very interesting because a lot of the time people think that in poorer counties people will not be able to dance, because dancing is a very expensive art form. Especially with certian types of dance, specifically ballet, ballroom and trapeze (dance that requires a lot of equiptment). Aditionally I find it amazing that people can bring joy to the streets through dance. I choose the pictures below because I think it really shows the joy and energy in these South African street Link to New York Times Article

wading in the water dance

After doing the wading in the water dance I found the background of the dance very interesting. I think the idea that Alvin Ailey bases his dances of real life experinces is really cool and I think it makes the dance feel more alive. Unlike some ballets that eventually get boring I think that Alvin Ailey really makes his dances personal. I also think that his dances portray meaning and leave the audience walking out with a better understanding of growing up in Texas during segregation. After learning the dance wading in the water I find myself wanting to expand on the dance more. Also, even more than wanting to continue the dance I would love to see the actual dance  (revalations) preformed by Alvin Ailey's company.
